I’m generally a pretty boring person when it comes to cocktails. If you were to talk to my friends, my drink order is pretty predictable. Themed cocktails, fruity punches, and beer samplers don’t typically take the cake.
You’d think since I started off working as a bartender, I would be into all different things. But, no. You’ll find me perfectly content over a gin and tonic, a gin and soda, or a vodka soda. Oh, but don’t skip the lime. The only time I mix things up is if I’m having wine at a girls night or there is a Moscow Mule special. If I think way back, I did have a “Desperate Housewife” with the girls at our “Supper Club, Club” get together.
For those of you that don’t know, Supper Clubs are a Wisconsin thing. Now that I think of it, there are kind of hard to describe. For starters, they are often family owned restaurants, only open for supper. They have an old-school feel and you can bet you’ll find plenty of steak, baked potatoes, and plenty of Old-Fashions to go around. But don’t forget the weekly fish fry.
Going to Supper Clubs was a weekly tradition for my family growing up. There was a local club called “Stock’s Supper Club” not far from where I grew up. I spent quite a few nights there with my parents and grandparents. They always had a snack table out with crackers, cheese spread, and braunschweiger which, believe it or not, I absolutely loved! My grandpa always spoiled my siblings and I with pull-tab tickets to keep us occupied.
But I digress. Getting back on track, I’m pretty boring when it comes to my drink selection. Unless I’m having a wild night out with the girls. Then maybe, just maybe, I might spice things up. Otherwise, you’ll likely catch me with a gin and soda. But that doesn’t mean I’m a stranger to a good Moscow Mule. A Moscow Mule is probably one of my favorite drinks to be all honest. However, the dietitian in me is always crunching the calorie numbers and a gin and soda always rings in lower.
But sometimes you just have to splurge. I mean ginger is good for digestion anyway. That means it’s good for you right?! During my last visit to HomeGoods, they had a ton of ginger beer on sale. I had to have it. Without it, I would not be sharing my delicious recipe for the Cranberry Moscow Yuletide Mule. While I love some ginger beer, I have a lot of friends and family that love it just the same. I figured I had to take a holiday spin on a family favorite.
The seasonal cranberry flavor play perfectly off the ginger beer. And if you choose to garnish it with a little lime, cinnamon sticks, and rosemary, it’s pretty as a picture! Your guests this holiday season are sure to be impressed. Additionally, you can easily turn this Cranberry Moscow Yuletide Mule into a tasty mocktail! Skip the vodka and I promise you will still have a tasty drink. Perfect for mamas-to-be or the designated driver! I’ve tried it both ways and it’s a winner every time!
So let’s get mixing! Pouring these Cranberry Moscow Yuletide Mules together for your Christmas party? Be sure to let me know by tagging a photo with #stephanieleenutrition on Instagram. I’d love to see what you mix up. Happy sipping!
